So, the old website isn’t doing too well? There are many reasons as to why a website is not getting enough traffic – anything from old content, you are targeting popular keywords only and so it will be very difficult to achieve a good ranking, it is not user friendly; there are many things you can address in order to pinpoint where you have gone wrong, and ultimately increase the traffic to your site.

It’s not optimised properly

We know every customer is different. We will formulate and implement a tailored SEO strategy especially for your business.

It is very important to have a functional, optimised website; it is what the customer expects. Your website should be easy to use, streamlined and offer a good user experience – having a good website with relevant, engaging content will lead to better business. If your site isn’t ranking very high with Google, there are several simple things you can do/change to optimise your website for search engines:

  1. When selecting your keywords, don’t over think it. Think about the product or services you offer and who will be searching for you. i.e. What keywords would they type into the search engine?
  2. Enter any and all words or phrases related to your product or service in the ‘tags’ section at the back end of your website. Think as the customer. What are all the possible words, phrases or images they could search for – think about it from every angle. This increases the chances of someone searching and triggering your keywords and phrases, and so increasing traffic to your site.
  3. A blog is a key component of a website which has utilised SEO properly. They offer the opportunity to increase your online footprint, but more importantly, gives you lots of space to use your keywords – just make sure they are words that people are most likely to type into a search engine.
  4. Social media is another important aspect to optimising your website. We all know the power that social media has these days and the exposure you can gain. You should be active on the most relevant social media platforms for your business and posting engaging and relevant content. It is a great platform to share links, generate more leads and effectively promote your business online.
  5. If you didn’t have a big budget then cheap website design shouldn’t mean that your website isn’t mobile friendly. If it isn’t then you should consider adjusting the resolution to fit small devices too. Recent studies show that around 80% of internet users own a smartphone and 48% of them start on search engines for their mobile research – make sure your site can be easily viewed and navigated on a smartphone and it only displays the relevant information. If the user experience is even faster and easier than accessing your site via their computer, then they will use the mobile method again the future.

Its’ been designed properly but nobody has ever spent time making it Google friendly

1.17 billion people use Google as their primary search engine, as opposed to 292 million user’s of Yahoo’s search – this makes it vitally important that you take the time to make your website Google friendly. Here are some simple do’s and don’ts when making your website Google friendly:

 DO’S

  • Create pages for your users, not for search engines! Give the user the information that they are looking for – provide high quality, relevant information on your homepage (this is the first page they will see…first impressions can be everything!) and include your keywords.
  • Make your site easily accessible and simple to navigate.
  • Make sure that other sites naturally link to your website – this can give your site great visibility and exposure in the search results. Google uses algorithms that can distinguish between natural and unnatural links, so make sure any links used are relevant.

DONT’S

  • Don’t clog your page with keywords, repeat information or include links that have no relevance to your site – don’t include text that you don’t intend for your site visitors to see as Google consider these as deceptive and can ignore your site.
  • Don’t create multiple pages with duplicate content – it won’t get you any higher up the search returns and your site will look and read awfully.

Every visitor leaves after 30 seconds

Apparently, you only have about 15 seconds to capture the attention of your site user before they will click that back button. There are actually a large number of reasons why visitors are not staying long on your site – here are the main factors you should resolve straight away:

  • The visitor should be able to tell within seconds what your company does and what you are about.
  • No slow loads times! If they are just curious or have clicked on an external link, then it is more than likely they will leave before your page even fully loads.
  • Badly designed navigation is really one of the most frustrating and off-putting factors to a website – I leave straight away! Make sure your website is straight-forward, descriptive and intuitive.
  • Think of the information that visitors will be looking for when they access your site – make it easy and quick to find or they will look elsewhere. Make sure the basics are in place –an ‘About’ page is always very useful to have.
  • Use attractive fonts, contrast and layout – make it easy on the eyes to read and follow.

It doesn’t grab visitor’s attention

“This whole idea of an attention span is, I think, a misnomer. People have an infinite attention span if you are entertaining them.” – Jerry Seinfeld

Give the people what they are looking for. When they visit your website it is to learn about your product, see what services you provide and if it is right them; so it is rather important that you grab and maintain their attention. A professional business logo design is perfect for capturing visitors attention.

As I mentioned before, if your loads times are slow then you will have very little, if any, traffic to your site – make this a priority!

Emotion drivesattention, which drives learning. Tell the visitors your story, don’t talk to the masses of internet users, talk to each person – talk to them like they are the only one that matters. Because they are! Bring them into your story and connect with them using inspiring content and images – no heavy text or uniform pages.

Make sure the information and images on each page flows in a logical pattern. Structure your content, take them on a journey and it will be much easier for your audience to follow your story and business.

Studies show that almost 79% of web users scan a web page and don’t read every little detail – give the visitor what they are looking and strategically place content on your page.

Your website is very important to the success and exposure your business gains. It is constantly accessible – so make sure it is the best it can be. Fix the issues that are slowing it down and deterring visitors to your page and watch the traffic increase.
