What is PHP?

PHP is a server-side programming language, which means it is used to develop websites and applications within the server itself.

PHP stands for Hypertext Pre-processor, but its predecessor was Personal Home Pages, which is where PHP gets its name.

Since PHP is a scripting language, it is read in real-time and often embedded into other online environments.

Because PHP is a server side script, this means it is interpreted and changed on the server of the website.

This differs from say JavaScript, which is an example of a client-side script that can be worked in the client browser.

Both PHP and JS are examples of scripts that can be embedded into HTML pages.
