Selecting the most relevant keywords is important for every website’s SEO strategy. This is the backbone of any SEO campaign and should be undertaken thoroughly.

The above SEO tools can help find new keywords, analyse competitor’s keywords and suggest broad and long tail keywords.

When undertaking keyword research it’s important to use Google Keyword Planner Tool alongside other keyword research tools.

Finding New Keywords

You will be presented with two different tools within the Google Keyword Planner: “Find New Keywords” and “Get metrics and forecasts for your keywords”.

keyword finder

Google Keyword Planner will suggest new keywords based on what you enter during this stage of the keyword process. The more keyword data you input here the better results you will get from the tool.

Analysing competing domains

Ahrefs allows you to analyse competing domains. This tool shows you keyword unique to your website, keywords in common, and the amount of keywords which are unique to your competition. This is really helpful as it means we can see what other websites are doing similar things, giving us the chance to really look in-depth into competition.

Domain Rating, Authority & Trust

There are many SEO tools which track links and provide domain trust and authority metrics.

Each of these tools have its own name for the rating/number, however, every tool essentially measures the same thing: the likelihood of ranking and they use a scale from 1 – 100.

Increasing domain trust and authority are the main factors involved when ranking on any search engine. The higher level of trust your domain has, the more traffic you should receive.

Google doesn’t want to give website traffic to untrusted domains as their mission is to “serve the most relevant result possible.”

domain rating

DR and UR (above) are figures which indicate the URL (UR) rating and the Domain Rating (DR) – both figures are out of 99. To have in the 40s is average and you should not place too much emphasis on this.
