Google Shopping Ads

If you’re selling products online and you don’t have Google Shopping ads, you could be missing out on a huge chunk of traffic and sales.

Google Shopping claims the top spot on the search results, above even the paid search ads, giving them immense reach and power in front of consumers.

Many eCommerce and online businesses have still to realise the power of shopping ads, so we wanted to shed some light on the subject so that companies know what they are missing.

Google Shopping Ads Overview

Let’s get into an example.

Say you are searching for water bottles, so you type this in as a search term, and up comes this:

3 things related to the products available have already been presented to the consumer:

  • Pictures
  • Price
  • Reviews

The customer has not even left Google’s search results page and already they are starting the consideration process.

It is important to note that presenting products to people in this way greatly reduces friction in the overall process.

If they want to dive a little deeper, they can click into the shopping tab, where they are met with more products and the ability to filter using price, brand, category and more.

The long and short of it is, if your products aren’t listed on Google Shopping, you are missing out on one of the best shopping experiences on the internet.

How Do I Get My Products On Shopping Ads?

Getting your products live on Google Shopping takes a bit of effort and has a few extra steps than just setting up normal search ads.

There are a few things you will need before you can get started:

  • A website where you sell your products
  • A Google Merchant Centre account
  • A Google Ads account

Once you have these three things in place, you can begin the process of tieing them all together.

We recommend using a WordPress platform with WooCommerce, since it can be integrated with Google Merchant Centre, meaning that you can sync all your product data in just a few clicks.

Once you have all your products listed in Merchant Centre, it is now time to connect the Merchant Centre account to your Google Ads account.

This is as simple as linking the account within Merchant Centre and confirming the sync in Google Ads.

Once the link has been made, as long as the products have been approved in Merchant Centre they will pull through straight away and you will be able to set up product ads.

Setting Up Product Ads On Google

Setting up the ads to run on Google Shopping is similar to Search Ads, but there are a few differences.

First you have to choose between standard and smart Shopping campaigns.

Standard Shopping campaigns will show products to a large range of people who are searching for products on Google

Smart Shopping campaigns use conversion tracking and data from your audience lists to target customers that are more likely to have a higher conversion rate.

Once you have selected a campaign and chosen your corresponding merchant centre feed, you can then start adding products to the campaign.

You can choose to add all products to the Ad Group, or you can set up individual Ad Groups for different product categories.

Once you have selected your daily spend and tweaked your other settings, your Shopping Ads should be ready to go.

It is worth mentioning that Shopping Ads can take a bit longer than Search Ads to learn the placement and spend settings, so give it 24 hours to start showing before you start changing things.
